Introducing PlayStation Gear, an ecommerce platform produced exclusively for the players.

PlayStation launched in 1995, immediately breaking the rules of gameplay. Since then, the brand has become recognised across the globe for its game changing ways, helping to shape new experiences in the world of technology – something we can relate to as an integrated digital agency with a passion for doing things differently. Earlier this year, we were approached by PlayStation and CentreSoft, the UK’s leading distributor of video games, to design and develop an intuitive platform for PlayStation Gear, a one-stop eshop for game merchandise, which has caused nothing but excitement since its launch on Wednesday.

The PlayStation Gear store is for the players; with an easy-to-use interface and an exclusive range of premium clothing, accessories, gifts, and collectibles by PlayStation and PS4 game favourites, including Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, and Resident Evil, getting your hands on PlayStation goods has never been easier.

Available in three different languages, English, German, and French, the website is accessible for PlayStation fans throughout Europe. Since its launch earlier this week, the platform has caused a stir on social media, with fans from all over the world expressing their excitement and asking questions as to when the site will be available further afield.

Jake Welsh, Managing Director at e3creative, shares his thoughts on the project.

"When CentreSoft and PlayStation approached e3creative to build the new website, we were absolutely delighted. Our agency has a continued focus and commitment to creating great user experiences, so to work with brands who are aligned with the same thought process and vision is always refreshing.

“The PlayStation Gear platform has utilised all areas of expertise within the agency, from strategists, analysts, UX designers, and digital artists, to coders and security teams. It's been a triumphant effort from all teams involved.

“With the platform only just launching across three territories, there are already encouraging results and engagement levels from gamers across the world, so we look forward to growing the platform into further territories globally, providing access to gamers worldwide."

Simon Fairhurst, Head of Design and UX at e3creative, headed up this particular project in terms of design and explains how he and his team approached the brief.

“The PlayStation Gear project was an exciting journey for everyone involved, coming with its own set of challenges. Myself and the team had to work hard to ensure the platform was visually impressive while on brand with PlayStation’s brand guidelines.

“We wanted to make sure the PlayStation Gear platform had its differences compared to the PlayStation website, which is why we made subtle changes to some areas of the site, such as the colour of the site’s navigation.

“An aspect of the site which stands out to me is the product listing page; for this particular section, we focused heavily on UI and UX, including filter options to enable users the chance to completely customise and create their own customer journey.”

The PlayStation Gear website has been one of our most exciting web builds to date and we’re thrilled to have played such an integral part in the launch for one of the world’s biggest brands. For the project, the entire team has pulled together, creating what can only be described as a groundbreaking platform.
